If you having problems getting the VirtueMart Search Product module to work follow this steps :
- Go to Extensions -> Plugin Manager
- Find Virtuemart Product and make sure it is published
- Go to Module Manager
- Use Joomla Search Module in the Module Manager
Also you can test VirtueMart Search Product Module ( not always working properly ). If it not working try to disable Search Engine Friendly URLs in Global Configuration
